Why cultural competency?
[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”10px”][vc_column_text]The group assembled became the Superintendent’s Educational Opportunities Advisory Council (SEOAC), charged to study and deliver recommendations to address the matter. Ten recommendations were submitted by SEOAC and approved by the CCSD Board of School Trustees. The Equity and Diversity Education Department is the primary provider of these four recommendations:
Recommendation 3. DEVELOP CULTURAL COMPETENCY: Mandatory professional development on cultural competency will be provided for all new teachers and administrators.
Recommendation 4. EXTEND CULTURAL COMPETENCY: At every school each year, at least one professional development day will be devoted to cultural competency.
Recommendation 5. GAUGE THE BENEFIT OF PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT: Implement an evaluation procedure to identify the impact of professional development that is intended to promote cultural competency.
Recommendation 6. REFINE WHAT WE MEAN BY CULTURAL COMPETENCY: Articulate standards and expectations of professional responsibility related to cultural competency.
