About the Equity and Diversity Department

The mission of the Equity and Diversity Education (EDE) Department is to promote equity, diversity, and inclusion across the district. The department aims to ensure that all students, regardless of their background, have access to equitable educational opportunities and resources. Key objectives include:

Promoting Equity: Addressing and eliminating disparities in educational outcomes among different student groups, particularly those historically marginalized or underserved.

Fostering Inclusion: Creating a school environment where all students feel valued, respected, and supported, regardless of their race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, disability, or other characteristics.

Cultural Competence: Providing training and resources to educators and staff to help them understand and address the diverse needs of students and families. Educators develop an awareness of their own cultural biases and an understanding of the cultural backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives of their students. This helps in recognizing and addressing potential inequities.
Restorative Practices: Restorative practices play a crucial role in ensuring equity in schools by fostering a supportive and inclusive environment where all students feel they belong and are heard. These practices focus on building relationships, accountability, addressing harm, and restoring community rather than relying solely on punitive measures.
